Happy Friday folks. It’s another week in the books. How bout those Washington Nationals?!?!?! A pitchers duel all night in San Diego as Darvish went 8 1/3 and Sanchez went five innings with the only hit coming off a solo shot from Manny Machado. Nats are back to .333 which is comical in itself considering they’re in dead last but they’re the best and most promising looking dead last team I’ve seen in a while. I guess I could say it appears as though they’re trending in the right direction.
NBA offseason should get exciting this year. It’s likely we could see a lengthy lock out if the league/owners and players union aren’t on the same page/chapter/book by the time negotiations begin. Commissioner Adam Silver has already stated that he is not happy with the amount of stars in the league that have used the public to help leverage a trade shortly after signing an extension. These incidents are not a good look for the league who, in my opinion have bent over backwards time and time again for their marquee players.
It’s worth discussing whether a hard salary cap and the elimination of max deals would help the league run better. As of now, I believe there’s only two teams that aren’t in the luxury tax (Spurs and Pacers). So it’s not just the super teams that are in the red, it’s everyone. The NFL’s hard cap eliminates the possibility of any team going over it since all the contracts signed get reviewed by the league before they are considered live. Of course the NFL doesn’t offer anywhere near the amount of guaranteed deals the NBA does.
Jerry Jones says hell no on the potential signing of Antonio Brown, Jim Irsay still has lots to say about Carson Wentz, and Keenan Allen says Justin Herbert practices harder than Philip Rivers. Two weeks away from College Football, the CFL heads in to week 11, and don’t look now but we’re three weeks away from NFL week one. Ladies and gentlemen start your engines.
