NFL Game Recap by John Turner

On a week that Raider legend Willie Brown passed away, Derek Carr brought his young weapons and league leading completion percentage to a slugfest in Houston. After a couple of punts on third and seven, Gruden dialed up a signature play to Renfrow for a 65 yard catch and run for a score. Carlos Hyde ran tough between the tackles to start the ensuing drive. A flag bailed out a loss on a bad snap giving the the Texans first and five. Watson hit Fells for a big gain that had 15 yards tacked on with a face mask on Joseph. Hyde another tough run and Watson would hit Duke Johnson on a bang bang TD catch and ladies and gentlemen we have a ballgame. Derek Carr hit receivers in stride and Josh Jacobs busted loose on a drive that ended with a TD catch by Waller in the front corner of the end zone. Jacobs out of Alabama is currently on pace to have more yards than Bo Jackson and Marcus Allen as a rookie Raider running back. Texans with a good drive near the end of the half with Watson hitting Stills on third and 10 for a first down to get into a red zone at the two minute warning, but were held to a field goal.

Houston with a solid drive to start the second half that included a converted fourth down from their own 30 early on. Texans would get a field goal on the drive. The Raiders would return the favor with Carr hitting Tyrell Williams on a 46 yards touchdown pass to make it an eight point game. Another good drive for the Texans with Watson hitting Hopkins on back to back plays to get out of a second and 18 situation. Hyde kept a pounding and got lucky recovering his own fumble in the red zone. Watson with a roll out designed run to his right gets a first on third. He’d roll right on the next play and hit Fells over the middle for at the five. The following play was a play action roll right TD pass to who you ask? Darren Fells. The Raiders made it a four point game adding a field goal on the next drive. Then DeShaun Watson happened. An incredible scramble that looked like the beginning of the Eli helmet catch play that included him bend accidentally kicked in the eye turned into a touchdown pass to… Fells of course.
