Roster Transaction: John Turner
Edwards is a 10 year vet that’s caught for 69 or more passes more over 950 yards in each of the last three seasons with the Argos. His first season there he was fortunate enough to win a Grey Cup playing in the offensive system of then Head Coach Marc Trestman, who is now the coach of the Tampa Bay Vipers. Before then he was in Saskatchewen where he wasn’t really being utilized by the Roughriders. He’s a two time FCS Champion Appalachian State in 2006 and 2007. He should be a lift to Landry Jones who’s leaned heavy on running back Cameron Artis-Payne thus far this season, as an all purpose dual threat.
Dennis heads back to his home town. The Queens, New York native has played both guard and tackle for 8 years, with the last four being spent in the CFL. He won a in 2018 blocking for Bo Levi Mitchell and two years before that won the league’s Most Outstanding Offensive Linemen Award. At 6’3″ and 345 lbs he provides some much needed beef for a line that hasn’t prevented much pressure from getting to any of the Guardian quarterbacks yet this season.
Good signings for the league and this now marks the 11th CFL free agent to sign with the XFL for far this inaugural season. Time will tell if either player will take the opportunity to head back up north after the XFL season is finished, but for now… it’s back in the states.
